Our Oracy Curriculum
Our Oracy Vision
At Furze Infant School, all children will strive to become effective communicators as they establish lifelong oracy skills and be empowered to use their voices.
What is oracy?
Oracy is articulating ideas, developing understanding and engaging with others through speaking, listening and communication. Oracy skills set children up for success in school and life.
Have a look at this short video that explains the importance of developing oracy skills at a young age.
Oracy is taught throughout our lessons and staff will introduce and informally assess skills that children should be able to demonstrate through careful questioning and observing how children discuss key topics. By the end of Year 2, these are the skills that children should be able to consistently show through talk.
Your child might talk about different ways we develop talk in school. The below show three ways we do this.
|
Children take it in turns to talk, listen and ask questions about a topic. |
Children discuss with a talk partner to agree a shared response. | Children participate in a larger group to share ideas and develop confidence. |
