Computing

At Furze we believe in providing children with the skills they need to succeed in our modern and ever changing world.

Develop: Our children become digitally literate and are ready to confidently use technology at home and at school. We believe it is a skill that empowers, and one that all pupils should be aware of and develop competence in. The curriculum has been structured to demonstrate a progression of knowledge and skills and ensures that children can build on their understanding, as each new concept and skill is taught with opportunities for children to revisit skills and knowledge as they progress through school.

Experiences: Children in the Early Years have access to a range of devices, remote controlled toys and resources so that they can explore simple technologies independently and use them in their learning and play. Throughout Key Stage 1, children are taught to use technology purposefully in a safe way to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content.

Values: Through an understanding of online safety, the computing curriculum helps the children to further their understanding of our school values particularly positive choices and respect.

Explore: It is our intention to enable children to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information. We also focus on developing the skills necessary for children to be able to use information in an effective way.

Lifelong: Technology is changing the lives of everyone in our increasingly digital world. Through teaching computing, we equip our children to participate in a rapidly changing world where work and leisure activities are increasingly transformed by technology. Through this approach we aim to give our pupils the life-skills that will enable them to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.

Opportunities: Learners will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of computational systems of all kinds, whether or not they include computers. Our computing curriculum gives children the opportunity to access a wide range of resources and to develop their skills in typing, word processing, coding and much more. The curriculum is fun, engaging and is enjoyed by all learners.

Purpose: Computing skills are a major factor in enabling children to be confident, creative and independent learners and it is our intention that children have every opportunity available to allow them to achieve this. As our children become digitally literate, they are ready to confidently use technology at home and at school.
